A Pokemon Infinite Fusion Sprite or Sprite Pack is a bunch of pictures showing mixed-up Pokemon in the game. The Pokemon Infinite Fusion community people create adorable pictures named “sprites” to replace the regular pictures in the game. The regular pictures are from Japeal’s Pokemon Fusion Generator, but sometimes they don’t look accurate and lack details. So, to handle this issue, the community’s people make these pictures by hand; it has been done by combined effort.

Download And Installation of Sprites for Pokemon Infinite Fusion Sprite or Sprite Pack

Downloads

  • Go to the option “downloads channel” on Discord.
  • You will get Official Sprite Packs there.
  • If you are here for the first time, select “Full” for all the sprites up to the last month.

Installation

  • Once downloaded, get done, then open the sprite pack.
  • Extract the files inside the CustomBattlers option folder.
  • This folder is available in your game directory at
  • (..\InfiniteFusion\Graphics\CustomBattlers).

Guidelines to Become an Official Spriter

Everything you share in the #spritegallery channel will be available in the sprite packs and the game. But first, you need to know the spriter role to post there.

If you want the Spriter role on Discord, the following steps must be followed.

  • You need to create three sprites and share them on the #Spritework channel. So, the community people will give you feedback and tips to improve them. On the other hand, if you didn’t get any comments,  then you need to use the command/feedback.
  • If you got feedback, then you go to the #applyfor spriter channel and click the option named “Apply for Sprite role”It will create a private channel for you to apply in.
  • After that point, in that applied private channel, you can now share three sprites you have made. But it is important to make sure that these sprites are conventional fusions of IF Pokemon only and not joke fusions for non-IF.
  • So, as soon as possible Sprite Manager will come and examine your work.

Which program will you use?

There are many image editing software available that can do a better job, but here I have used some commonly used examples:

Piskel

  • It is a simple and very helpful tool for editing images, and it is convenient for beginners.
  • You don’t need to download anything for use because you can use it online easily.
  • If you require to get a bigger image, then you will export it at 3x scale, or you can resize it to 288*288 pixels.

Paint.Net

  • It is the second mentioned tool for you, which is free and easy to use to edit the images, but you need to download it.
  • Go to “Image” and then “Resize” and choose “Nearest Neighbour” under “Resampling” for resizing an image.

  • MS Paint is very basic software and is already on most computers.
  • It doesn’t support any transparent background and nor have layers>
  • For resizing the image, click on the option with two squares and resize it by the percentage to 300%, and you can even use the pixel option to make it smaller.

  • It is a free tool as an alternative to Photoshop, but it can be harder for beginners.
  • Go to “Image” and then “Scale Image,” and select option “None” under “Interpolation” to resize the images.

Starting Custom Sprites

Sprites are like pictures of Pokemon. But remember that if you are going to create them from scratch, you still need existing ones to know the right colour. It is important to note that don’t use Sprites from the Game Folder because it might have the wrong colours.

  • Dont use sprites traced by people without their permission or from Google or DeviantArt

Loading sprites into editing software For Pokemon Infinite Fusion Sprite or Sprite Pack

Once you are with your Sprites then put them into your editing software. It is important to note that canvas size is always 96*96. But some Sprites are smaller, like 80* 80, so upload them into a canvas for size correction. You can directly work in bigger sizes like 288*288, but it can be causely.

Preserve the Sprite Quality

Lastly, you need to save your Sprites. PNG files, don’t use. JPEG. Because saving them as. JPEG can make them blurry and it will be hard to fix it.

Fusion Features

For making a Fusion, start it with two Pokemon sprites. Use one for the head and another for the body. Choose it as per your understanding of which Pokemon will be the head and which will be the body. To make a Fusion work well, remember some important things. Add the head feature to the body and colour it with the head colour.

  • Then, mix the features of both Pokemon in the best way.
  • You need to avoid using too many same but not exactly similar colours.
  • Make sure the sprites are in the right size(288*288) and have no half-pixels.

Starting with smaller, basic Pokemon is really good for beginners. They are very simple, so make it easier to merge them. You need them in the same poses. By this, you can mix and match their parts.Figure out where to put the pictures on the 288*288 canvas. Avoid putting it at the bottom area because it will look very low on battle screens.

How to Fuse Sprite Parts

Making Pokemon Fusins sprites involves copying and pasting parts of one Pokemon’s head onto another Pokemon’s body. These parts need to be changed a bit to fit well combined.

Make sure to put them together the right way.

There might be a need to change the size of body parts at any point so they will fit nicely on the main Pokemon. However, when we resize them it can make the pixels look messy or very big, so you need to fix it manually on your hand. It will help to provide a clean look.

Pokémon Style

” Pokemon Style” is the meaning the way pictures (sprites) look in Pokemon Black and White. When we start to discuss making pictures in Pokemon style, there are some important things to remember:

  • In the pictures of Pokemon, the light always comes from the left.
  • You need to stick to using around 4 to 5 shades mostly; don’t use too many different shades for each colour.
  • Keep the pictures simple and easy to understand for players. Don’t put too many details to make it messy.
  • The character in the picture must be facing or looking to the left.
  • Your picture size must be according to your Pokemon drawing size.

Half-pixels

  • Half-pixels are like pictures that are not the right size. Mostly, it happens when people work on those pictures that have been made bigger by three times.
    In our game(IF), all the pictures start from 96*96 pixel size. Each pixel is like a small block of 3*3 pixels. But, if you want to change its size to 288*288, you might create pixels that will not be in actual size. It makes the pictures look so weird. These weird pixels are called half-pixels, and no one wants to use them.
  • If you are trying to make a part of a Pokemon fit the original size, but if it is not exactly according to 96*96, then you will get too big pixels. These are also considered half-pixels; it is good for you to fix them by making drawings look nice.
  • If you are trying to adjust your picture size, that’s not a multiple of 96; you will get half-pixels, too. To remove this issue, you need to work on 96*96 canvas. If it is not possible, then resize to a number that’s exactly three times your canvas size. It is the only to avoid tough half-pixels.

Stray-Pixels

  • Stray pixels are those small dots that exist and hang around the pictures. They are too small in size, like 1*1 pixel, and even they might blend with the background because they exactly look like. It can happen when you are working on a regular size of 96*96 pixels.
  • These small dots might stick around when you are making any changes in the background. You should get rid of them to make your picture look clean.

Color Palettes

The old Pokemon picture can only have 16 colours, including black, white, and transparent.

Because the computer program used for it has limits, but here, if we want, we can use some extra colours. It’s a good thought to stick to a limited set of colours to keep the style similar.

For a good and clear picture, it’s best to have four shades. These are contained on a bright part, the main part, a shadow part, and a darker edge. If you use too many colours, you might get a blurry picture.

If you stick to the original colour of the main Pokemon, it mostly looks good. Some cases happen where you don’t need all four shades. For example, some colours don’t require a dark edge, and sometimes there are only two shadow shades.

Extreme dark colour, almost black, might be a little different in various pictures. So, it’s good to use only one black colour instead of two.

Recolouring

Making a fusion is like merging two different Pokemon to create a new Pokemon. The first and most important thing is recolouring its part by changing the colour of the body Pokemon to match the colour of the head Pokemon. It is important to know which colour will work for what when you change them. Suppose the head Pokemon has more or lesser shades of colour than the body Pokemon; for example, if you use the main colour of the head for the main colour of the body, and the shadow colour for the shadow, and so on. Here you can use one new color for two same shades.

Make sure you don’t try to mix unmatchable colours, like mixing up the light and dark colours, because due to this, your fusion will look weird by looking too bright or too dark

By Adding New Colours

When you start to add new things to your Pokemon mix, like held items or special features, you might need to make some new colours. But be careful! Each color looks change from the other. By this, you can easily tell them to apart.

Some people make mistakes by adding colour and making them too bright, too change, or too strong. Light color can be here for use, but mid-tones and shadows are normally not very bright.

Keep the difference around 15 to 30%.

If you want to shift the colours a little bit, it can make your picture look cool and good, like there’s depth or faraway things.

If you need more clarification, you can always pick colours from other Pokemon pictures to make sure they fit the style

Outlines

Try to make your outlines, especially on curves, look good by making them smooth. When you draw, the length of your lines should go up gradually, like 1-1-2-2-3-5, not up and down, like 1-2-1-3-2-5. Here, if you have a two-pixel line, the next one should be one, two, or three pixels long, and so on. Avoid making lines with Jaggies, which are unintended corners or jagged edges.

  • Make sure to make all your outlines completely black or completely coloured in. Shade them with black where they touch shadows and use the darkest shade where they touch the main colours and highlights. To look good, you can use the shadow colour for outlines where they touch highlights, especially in the top left of the sprite. If you are confused about colour selection, then you should check the original sprites.
  • You need to avoid the “staircase,” which happens at that time when a line is too thick. Lines must only touch at the corners of pixels and not be connected in a continuous line.
  • Broken Outlines are those lines where one or more than one pixel is missing and leaving a hole in these lines. You need to avoid it because it will not fit the Pokemon style.

Shading Pokemon for

In battle pictures of Pokemon, the light always comes from the top left and in front of the Pokemon. That means the bright parts, called highlights, are in the top left, and the darker parts, called shadows, are in the bottom right of almost every part of the battle picture.

It is important to shade and shape the shadows because it has a big impact on how the picture looks. It affects how full and deep the Pokemon seems. So, you need to do it in the right way. You can also take ideas from original Pokemon if you are still confused.

Anti-aliasing (AA)

Anti-aliasing (AA) is a technique to make colour transitions smoother by adding a subtle extra shade at the meeting points of different colours. To avoid blurriness, do not create a complete outline because it involves placing a few pixels in the corners where colours meet.

AA is very useful for the large differences between shades or even when a Pokemon has a pattern of a different colour. However, it should never be used around the outlines, inside or outside the sprite, and the shade must blend well without any standing out visibly.

Dithering

Dithering is a technique to blend shades by using a checkerboard pattern with two colours, frequently seen in Pokemon Sprites for textures like fire or fur. It is attractive, so it’s good to use a little bit to provide texture without making an area stand out. Historically, the dithering technique was used for smoother slopes on small screens, but it stands out when sprites are scaled up, so it is not matchable for IF sprites.

Making a sprite from scratch(Beginners Avoid to apply this)

  • For creating a scratch sprite, you will resize a reference sketch or image and draw over it on a new layer.
  • If your drawing is good, then you can make your own poses for fusions and give unique and dynamic sprites.
  • If you are not sure about it, you can use official art, TCG cards, or anime screenshots for custom poses.
  • But you need to get permission to use someone else’s fanart to avoid theft.

Sprite-Gallery

  • Upload your sprites over the gallery for monthly packs and the game.
  • Finished sprites must be a 288*288 .png file(3 times the original pixel scale).
  • You need to use the correct file name format, like (head),(body).png for the game to recognise it.
  • If there are multiple sprites for one fusion, the community votes for the main sprite in #main-sprites-voting.It is the right way to understand.
  • You can create alternate versions with names like(head),(body)a.png for various versions.
